My name is Paul. I’m a counsellor and psychotherapist based in Surry Hills, Sydney. I specialise in working with adults and adolescents experiencing difficulty with anger management issues.

What are anger management issues?

Everyone gets angry from time to time. Anger is a normal and natural emotional reaction to feeling stressed, frustrated or anxious. However, anger may be an issue if you’re angry more often than not, have difficulty controlling your anger, or it is hindering your relationships.

Symptoms of anger management issues include:

  • Reacting quickly and violently to small problems
  • Accusing friends and relatives of disrespect
  • Finding it difficult to quell feelings of anger
  • Substance abuse and addiction
  • Becoming easily frustrated with other people and the world
  • Loss of relationships or preferring to live in tumultuous relationships

What is anger management counselling?

Anger management counselling isn’t about denying or repressing your anger. Expressing anger appropriately can be useful: it can keep us safe, address injustice, improve our relationships and motivate healthy change. Unchecked expressions of anger, from heated arguments to full-blown rage, can cloud our judgment and ability to think clearly. Anger management counselling works because it taps into the core issues that underpin inappropriate anger, helping you to identify why you’re feeling angry.

Anger is often a mask for deeply vulnerable feelings such as hurt, fear, shame and grief. Counselling for anger management issues can help you learn to recognise the triggers of your anger, it’s origins, how to react consciously and appropriately, and how to overcome your anger.
